TheProductLawyers.com reports on another lawsuit which has been filed against SGLT2 class inhibitor drug Invokana and manufacturer Janssen Pharmaceuticals (a division of Johnson & Johnson corporation). This particular complaint was filed by a Texas woman who claims that the defendant is responsible for her serious injuries which she claims were caused by her use of new-generation, type 2 diabetes drug Invokana. Her lawsuit was filed in New Jersey, and requests over $10 million in compensation after suffering from what she claims were life-threatening injuries.
Court documents highlight additional details of the lawsuit which indicate that the plaintiff began taking Invokana in October 2013 to treat her type-2 diabetes. The woman reports that after taking the drug for a short time, she suddenly suffered from serious injuries, including the development of a potentially life-threatening condition called diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) as well as severe kidney damage. Due to these problems, the woman states that she ceased taking Invokana in November of 2013.
Diabetic ketoacidosis develops when the body’s bloodstream contains too much toxic acid or ketones. Kidney damage has also commonly been connected to Invokana through adverse event reports to the FDA. The FDA recently issued a public safety communication regarding diabetic ketoacidosis, which can put patients into comatose states or even cause death if untreated.
Because of the severe side effects reportedly linked to the drug, Invokana has been surrounded by much recent public controversy. The attorneys of Banville Law are dedicated to keeping consumers informed about updates regarding the drug, as well as lawsuits and potential dangers surrounding it.
