Pradaxa Lawsuit Results Provide Encouragement For Plaintiffs In Current Xarelto Lawsuits

April 18, 2016 - PRESSADVANTAGE -

BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on substantial similarities noted between Xarelto and Pradaxa lawsuits, which now help to give current Xarelto lawsuit plaintiffs encouragement as they await scheduled 2017 bellwether trials. Xarelto lawsuit filings are still increasing in number regularly. Those which were federally-filed have been transferred to a single court and consolidated by the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, forming MDL number 2592. These cases are reported to number over 2,800 today. Additionally, another grouping of over 600 lawsuits referencing Xarelto have been consolidated to form a mass tort program by the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Lawsuits which have become a part of the MDL are housed in Eastern Louisiana and are being overseen by Judge Eldon Fallon. The involved complaints have been filed against defendants Bayer AG and Johnson & Johnson subsidiary, Janssen Pharmaceuticals. In addition, involved plaintiffs share strikingly similar allegations that use of the new-generation blood thinner puts patients at increased risk for severe and potentially life-threatening bleeding episodes.

Just five years ago, in 2011, Xarelto was released to market without any corresponding antidote. This was a point of contention for many over the next several years, as allegations brought attention to the dangers that a lack of antidote could pose for anyone injured while on blood thinners. Although Xarelto was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, it also received two “black box” warnings from the agency, which are the most severe warnings possible for the FDA to give a product. Xarelto was approved to treat patients recovering from knee and hip replacement surgeries, as well as those suffering from deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, or atrial fibrillation condition.

Pradaxa is similar to Xarelto in that it is also considered to be a new-generation anticoagulant. It was marketed by Boehringer Ingelheim in October of 2010. As has occurred with Xarelto, the blood thinner quickly became the topic of over 3,500 adverse event reports and later more than 4,000 lawsuits involving similar allegations. The plaintiffs involved in these lawsuits, as Xarelto plaintiffs are today, were anxiously awaiting their trial dates. The evening before the trial was set to begin, however, the defendant decided to settle the lawsuits and paid $650 million to plaintiffs.

Today, Xarelto lawsuit plaintiffs find some comfort in this outcome, as they look to attain what they consider to be some sort of justice. There have been no reported discussions of settlement talks for Xarelto lawsuits at this time, but new controversies have recently emerged surrounding the clinical trials of the drug, which lead some involved parties to believe that settlement is becoming more likely.

As those involved continue to await trial, Attorney Joseph Osborne is hoping to help ensure that other patients who have used Xarelto and who feel that it caused them to suffer from adverse health events will be given the important opportunity to explore their legal rights in the matter. Affected patients could be entitled to legal action and significant compensation. To better assist those wanting to learn more, Attorney Osborne is offering complimentary legal consultations for affected individuals at this time.
