Grand Rapids, MI: Youth Unlimited is preparing to send nearly 1,500 teens on service projects across North America through a program they call “SERVE.” Jeff Kruithof, Director of Youth Unlimited, explains, “SERVE is a five to seven day long service trip, but it is more than just that. It is a faith-forming experience where communities, congregations, and students involved all experience lasting transformation.”

This summer, students and volunteers will spend their time doing a variety of service and mission projects in communities throughout the United States and Canada. “SERVE is a unique opportunity for students to impact and revitalize communities by showing them the love of Christ,” said Kruithof.

Youth Unlimited provides these events to help teens connect to the church, communities, and each other and to learn life lessons that they can take with them into adulthood. A list of upcoming event dates and locations are available online at youthunlimited.org.

SERVE is not just about cleaning up garbage and painting fence posts. The program is built around a host church who wants to build relationships within its own community. Host churches across North America work with Youth Unlimited to mobilize 50 or more students to do 1,400 hours of volunteer work for local organizations and home owners. “SERVE is an intentional way to show communities that they are loved, and to show the students they can be involved in a transformative work that is bigger than themselves,” added Jerry Meadows, Mission Director of Youth Unlimited.

Just as exciting as the transformation taking place in the the community is the transformation in the lives of the teens and volunteers who participate in these trips. SERVE is not just a weeklong trip. It’s a transformation that truly lasts a lifetime.

Youth Unlimited invites everyone to learn more about the summer service trip locations, as well as guidelines and costs associated with these trips. The organization urges anyone interested to please contact them about ways to help with these events. Visit www.youthunlimited.org to learn more.
