BTL Liners, a company that is based in Prineville, Oregon, and manufactures heavyweight reinforced polyethylene (RPE) geomembrane liner products, has donated liners to Mission 4 Mexico. The charitable organization that received the donation helps to build homes for people in need in San Luis Rio Colorado in Sonora, Mexico, something that they do every year. The donation, which consisted of over 1200 sq ft of durable RPE liners, has been welcomed gladly by members of the charity, who feel that it will greatly improve the work that they already do.
"Our wall tents had no floors to keep out sand and dirt," explained Marty Quinn, a member of the leadership team for Mission 4 Mexico. "We had been using ordinary tarps from the hardware store, which weren't very durable and were hard to keep clean."
Marty is a resident of Prineville and is therefore very familiar with the lining materials offered by BTL. Usually, these liners are used in the oil and gas, environmental and agricultural industries, as well as being used in home and commercial water scape projects. Marty contacted BTL Liners to ask whether they had any materials left over or that were defective, which they may be willing to donate to Mission 4 Mexico.
"They asked what sizes we needed and cut the floor pieces to our specs. It was all done very quickly. When we arrived later that same day, everything was rolled up, marked and ready to go," said Marty Quinn.
The new liners will be used by Mission 4 Mexico as floors in the wall tents occupied by the missionaries. They will be vital in keeping out dirt and dust, as well as offering privacy.
"This liner works well because there are no seams. It's heavy enough that it lays flat and it's easy to sweep the tents so our folks can enjoy the tents without having sand everywhere. Plus, the extra liner along the sides helps keep out the spiders and scorpions, which everyone appreciates," added Marty Quinn.
Mission 4 Mexico has been operating for 25 years and they have been providing opportunities for less fortunate adults and youths of 14 years or more in San Luis Rio Colorado. At the moment, some 80 missionaries take part in the project each spring. The charity is currently considering offering similar services in other disadvantaged communities across Mexico, and particularly in rural and hard to reach areas. They are involved in the building of small homes and dwellings for needy residents. Additionally, they run street ministries and a variety of outreach activities whenever they are in San Luis Rio Colorado.
