Pamela Wible, M.D., Awarded 2015 Women Leader In Medicine

Pamela Wible, M.D., has been named the 2015 Women Leader in Medicine by the American Medical Student Association on February, 26, 2015 in Washington D.C.. American premedical and medical students nominated her as they felt she is one of the most inspiring women educators in medicine today. "I'd like to ask you to be a healer and not a factory worker," said Dr. Wible during her acceptance speech. "And I'd like to ask you to take your eyes off your computer and look into your patients. Because it's there [in your patients' eyes] that you will find the truth and discover yourself and your path in medicine. Thank you."

Dr. Wible is a family physician who was born into a family of physicians. In 2004, however, she was fed up with what she coined as "assembly-line medicine." As a result, she decided to hold a town hall meeting where she invited residents of her community to design their own ideal clinic. This clinic, which she opened in 2005, has now become the model for a populist movement across the nation. Doctors and patients alike are working together to create ideal clinics and hospitals. Besides pioneering this movement, Pamela Wible, M.D., is also an expert on medical student and physician suicide prevention.

"A dysfunctional medical system can only exist on the backs of a disempowered physician population—the precursor of which is an abused medical student population," says Dr. Wible.

To empower others to develop ideal medical clinics in their communities, Dr. Wible also offers retreats for medical students and physicians. Since she first opened her community's ideal clinic ten years ago, Dr. Wible has been coaching other physicians in doing the same. Over the past decade, hundreds of physicians have been able to improve their own medical practices and thereby the health outcomes of their patients as well. Dr. Wible understands physician depression, as she has experienced it herself. However, she found a way out and now wants to provide others with the same tools and skills.
