A well-known local clinic, Tucson Biological Wellness, is excited to announce the addition of a Vitaeris320 hyperbaric chamber. This latest acquisition means that the clinic is now in a position to offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy in addition to its other range of services.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, commonly referred to as HBOT, is a painless treatment that is used in clinics and hospitals not only in the United States but around the world. It has been used successfully to treat a wide and diverse range of problems. A lot of people may be aware of its use in the treatment of “the bends,” which is also known as decompression sickness. This is a condition that divers may experience when surfacing too fast which can cause gas bubbles to form in the bloodstream. It is not just for the bends, however, that hyperbaric treatments are used. Many other conditions such as anemia, burns, non-healing wounds, and radiation injuries are just a few of the well-known conditions for which HBOT has been used.
HBOT or hyperbaric medicine as it is often called, is the medical use of oxygen in a pressurized environment that is at a higher pressure than atmospheric pressure. This increased pressure allows the oxygen to dissolve and saturate the blood plasma which is considered to yield a wide variety of positive physiological, biochemical and cellular effects. The therapy is non-invasive and is perhaps the most trusted method of increasing oxygen levels in all the organs of the body. Typically, the patient lies down and breathes normally during the treatment which can last for anything between 60 and 90 minutes.
Although it has been the subject of 21st century technological improvements, hyperbaric medicine is in fact much older than most people realize. In 1917, German inventors Bernhard and Heinrich Dräger applied pressurized oxygen to successfully treat decompression illness from diving accidents. The modern age of using hyperbaric oxygen therapy is said to have begun when it was reported in 1961 that some infections were inhibited by its use. The treatment has been used, often very successfully, ever since, even though the precise way that it works is still not fully understood.
Tucson Biological Wellness had its grand opening on January 17th, 2020. The clinic states that its goal is to help every patient feel comfortable and knowledgeable about the modalities that the clinic offers.
The clinic’s system of naturopathic services follows a logical and extensive process of examining biological markers and working in small, logical steps to “nudge the body back into natural health.” This is said to be useful for anything from adrenal dysfunction to chronic pain.
Nora T., a patient of the clinic, said, “I was not terribly hopeful when I started meeting with the staff at Tucson Biological. I expected to be given a lot of jargon which I wouldn’t understand. Instead, I was treated with the utmost care and given logical explanations of what was wrong and what they could do for me. I agreed to the treatment and subsequently found myself feeling better than I thought was possible. I was excited to hear that the clinic had acquired an HBOT chamber and I am looking forward to experiencing hyperbaric oxygen therapy as I believe that it will help.”
