Tuscaloosa, Ala.- Alabama Bail Bonds, a bail bonds company in Tuscaloosa, AL, has recently updated its community on the effects of Coronavirus or COVID-19. They have worked closely with the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to determine the best course of action to protect inmates, workers and visitors from the spread of Coronavirus.
The Bureau of Prison, Department of Corrections and Department of Justice have decided that it’s in everyone’s best interest to suspend social visitation for 30 days. To compensate for the suspension, inmates have been allowed 200 more telephone and video call minutes a month.
Legal visitations are suspended as well, according to the Tuscaloosa bail company. While legal counsel is required by law, the method of counsel is not. Like social visitations, legal counsel will now be provided over the phone on a private line for the inmates.
Alabama locals were concerned about what would happen to recently arrested individuals and if they were a risk to other inmates. Alabama Bail Bonds noted that the BOP will continue to allow prisons to accept new inmates.
Staff and other officials that are allowed into prison facilities will have to be screened both when they arrive and leave the facility. Those who are sick must self-report and refrain from coming into work. Alabama Bail Bonds and the BOP were aware of the threat of a staff member coming into the closed facility while being sick with the virus. The close quarters and shared air would be very conducive to spreading the virus.
