Chantilly, Va.- Award Crafters, a local corporate gifts store in Chantilly, VA, is among the thousands of businesses in Virginia that may be closed indefinitely. D.C., Maryland and Virginia are closely following the actions of New York and California in slowing down the spread of COVID-19. Virginia currently has over 250 cases of Coronavirus, 35 which were reported just this past weekend.
Governor Hogan of Maryland, according to ABC News, enacted an executive order on Monday that will close “all nonessential businesses, organizations, establishments and facilities in Maryland, including all businesses not covered by federal guidelines, starting at 5 p.m.” Whether Virginia will follow Maryland in closing all businesses remains unclear. However, the states seem to act in accordance with each other as they respond to this crisis.
Award Crafters would be among the nonessential businesses that would be forced to close if Virginia follows Maryland in mandating a lockdown. Considering the rapidly growing number of positive cases in Virginia, the lockdown seems inevitable.
School closures are already underway in the state of Virginia. Governor Ralph Northam updated his state on Monday, March 23rd to say, “By tomorrow, our Department of Education will issue guidelines to help school divisions think through decisions and ensure that every student is served equitably.”
The Governor also mentioned businesses that have taken the initiative to close despite not being required to do so. He thanked them for their initiative and for being responsible during this time.
As Award Crafters, the medal engraving store in Chantilly, faces this uncertain time, they are taking the opportunity to step back and reevaluate their business and look for ways to improve their services. While they are worried about the future of the business, they want the best for their community.
