Temecula, California, based Burke & Redford Orthodontists announce they are thrilled to offer teleorthodontics to current and new patients of their private practice. This virtual service allows orthodontic care to be presented remotely so adults and children can ask questions of the doctors and have care directed from the convenience and safety of their home.
Virtual orthodontic appointments offer several methods to connect, which include: 1) Zoom meetings with a private link provided only to the family, 2) regular telephone calls, 3) or text messaging. Extending this additional layer of accessibility for patients, Dr. Redford and Dr. Burke provide a flexible method for families to discuss their orthodontic needs.
Given the current situation in the United States with the Coronavirus pandemic, Burke & Redford Orthodontists aim to take their practice a step further by remaining available to all patients, current and new, as virtual orthodontists. While adhering to HIPAA guidelines to protect the health and privacy of their patients, these doctors may now continue to offer their initial services remotely. This includes first consultations for new patients to become familiar with the doctors and discuss potential orthodontic treatments available at their practice, as well as current patients.
“Although the current health crisis is a complex situation for our practice, there are some unique advantages to telehealth,” states top orthodontist, Dr. Ryan Redford. “During online consultations with young patients, both parents may be present to meet and hear the opinion of the doctor, rather than one spouse relaying the contents of an in-office consultation to the other spouse later. Not only does this save time, but it allows both spouses to ask the doctor their questions and come to an agreement during the virtual visit.”
Thanks to the innovative strides taken in teleorthodontic technology, Dr. Redford and Dr. Burke are excited to continue accepting new patients. While their physical offices are closed for all non-emergency visits until further notice due to COVID-19, new patients can still have initial consultations take place online through virtual orthodontic exams. Further diagnostics and imaging using their Planmeca ProMax 3D system and photographs will be required in the office prior to formally starting treatment. This will give the orthodontists all the information needed to provide their well-rounded, expert opinion on how treatment should proceed to achieve the best result possible in the most efficient way.
Current patients may continue treatment through the guidance of the doctors during virtual orthodontic appointments. Before the visit, instructions on how to take pictures of their teeth will be given to the patient. These will then be submitted electronically to the doctors for examination. The summary of the exam and any required changes will be discussed with the patient during the Zoom meeting. Zoom is an online video meeting platform that is simple to join, and no software is required for the patient. However, if an orthodontic emergency occurs that needs prompt attention, the doctors and staff are available to bring patients into the office to address their needs.
These recent advances in the world of telehealth have not only allowed current and new patients to continue receiving expert orthodontic care, but for teleorthodontics to be implemented for excellent patient care at Burke & Redford Orthodontists.
