With less than a month left to South Carolina’s primary election, Democratic incumbent Chris Malphrus takes a firm stand against drugs as he bids for reelection as Jasper County Sheriff. “I am currently running for reelection as I want to continue to serve and protect the county I call home,” he says.
Now eyeing for his second term, Sheriff Malphrus says the war on drugs as a means to curb the number of criminals in Jasper County will remain a priority in his office. As someone whose family was directly affected by drugs and alcohol addiction in his childhood, he said it had been his passion and goal to fight the crimes attached to it.
Sheriff Malphrus showed his prowess in drug enforcement since his first term. Since then, he has been making a difference in the Jasper County community, reducing crime rates and increasing law enforcement relationships with the citizens. “I want to continue this positive impact for a better Jasper County for all,” he added.
Eyeing anew to be the Democratic candidate this November, Malphrus likewise stands firm to fight for equality, justice, and opportunity for all people in the community. He aims to become a sheriff of the people, standing with the people, working for the people. He is also armed with a mission “to protect the lives, property, and rights of all citizens; to work alongside deputies, helping, coaching, and providing the necessary training to keep Jasper County safe.”
As an Award-Winning Jasper County Sheriff, Malphrus also considers himself uniquely qualified to win the 2020 Jasper County Sheriff Election. He is armed with 22 years of experience in law enforcement. From a humble beginning at Ridgeland Police Department, he continues to bring a legacy in the Jasper County Police Department. In all these years, he was also able to get numerous recognitions for the police department.
Malphrus’s leadership led to a significant statistical decrease in violent crimes and a notable increase in deputy patrol with an overwhelming amount of community involvement and support. For his first term alone, homicide cases were cut down by 42.8%, while burglary decreased by 33 percent. The number of motor vehicle theft also reduced by 30%, and larceny went down by 18.1 percent.
In addition, Sheriff Malphrus did not only succeed in solving criminal arrests in Jasper County but also in bridging the gap between the police and the community. He implemented a community policing program, thus establishing one on one working relationships between officers and citizens together.
He created the citizen-focused training program called Reach and Teach. This program focuses on informing all citizens of Jasper in everyday life topics and situations they may encounter.
Meanwhile, aside from the community, Sheriff Malphrus also aims to champion the welfare of the law enforcers in service. Upon taking office, he vows to provide a salary increase for deputies. Malphrus also commits to have state of the art equipment, which includes car camera systems and deputy body cameras for the police department. “Most importantly, I have vowed to be a hands-on, working Sheriff,” he added.
