The Adaptive Reconditioning Program took place in October 2020 and allowed Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) Soldier Recovery Unit (SRU) Soldiers and Veterans to participate in a painting class at the Starfire Sports complex. Sequoyah Burke-Combs, a Seattle Rugby player, was the instructor.
Adaptive Reconditioning refers to a variety of therapeutic programs allowing wounded, ill, and injured soldiers to engage in activities that support their physical and emotional well-being. Painting classes and other programs help the recovery of soldiers transitioning to both active duty and civilian life.
The painting class provided a much-needed relaxing event and environment for the soldiers.
It was a huge success due to the efforts of Kevin Flynn, of Raymark Plumbing and the Seattle Rugby Club, and Ryan Youngman of the Seattle Rugby Club.
“It was a really fun and relaxing experience,” stated Staff Sergeant (SSG) Matthew Nore. SSG Nore, a native of Wrangel, Alaska, never imagined how easy it was to paint. “I surprised myself by painting this wave. I never thought I could.” The painting session produced beautiful pieces of art from all who participated.
