Contractors State License Center (CSLC), a contractors license school in Los Angeles, wants people who desire to become contractors to know that they are ready to help them pass the licensing test for contractors in California. To become a licensed contractor in California, those who are interested in the contracting business have to pass this difficult exam. Fortunately, CSLC offers an effective and comprehensive curriculum for a classroom environment to substantially improve the chances of students in passing the test and ultimately earn their California contractors license.

“Our research shows that contractors have a higher passing rate when studying in a class room,” says Eric Jacobs, an instructor at the Contractors State License Center. “In order to help you pass this exam, we have implemented an effective and comprehensive California contractors school, specifically designed to help you pass the test the first time. We offer a detailed curriculum in a classroom setting that is designed for your success. Our program that has been created over 20 years has helped thousands of our students get their California contractors license.”

Anyone who does construction work in California and charges a fee of over $500 is required by law to be a licensed contractor. This includes individuals or companies that provide services for the construction or modification of any building, parking facility, excavation, road, railroad, highway, or other structure in California. Such businesses or individuals must be licensed by the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) if the total cost (labor and materials) of one or more contracts for a project is $500 or more. They can be licensed as general engineering contractors, general builders, or in more specialized trades, such as landscaping, well drilling, masonry, framing. They have to be licensed before submitting any bids. Such licenses can be provided to individuals, partnerships, corporations, joint ventures, or limited liability companies.

Only those who perform minor work, such as a project for which the total value of labor, materials, and other costs on one or more contracts is less than $500, are exempted from having license. But it is not possible to subdivide a big project in such as way that the project costs will be less than $500 just to get exempted from the license requirement. Also, unlicensed contractors will have to provide the purchaser with a written disclosure in the B&P Code section 7048 revealing that they don’t have a license from the CSLB, or else the $500 exemption will not be applicable.

The curriculum developed for classroom by the CSLC is made up of six courses that are focused on the subject of Law and Trade. It is important to note that the California contractor license exam is composed of two separate exams. One exam is the regular Law and Business test, which contractor candidates will have to pass to qualify as a licensed contractor in California. Only those who are able to pass the Law and Business exam will be allowed to take a second test, which will be about the specific trade or certification area that they want to specialize in. This trade test does not need to be taken by those who are aiming for the C-61 Limited Specialty Classification.

Meanwhile, the CSLC has also developed a home study program because not everyone has the ability to attend classes. In this home study program, students are provided with books, study guides, and practice exams to prepare them adequately for the licensing exam.
