Naperville, IL — FedEx recently announced that they have plans to acquire an entirely electric fleet of vehicles within the next 20 years. As a FedEx shipping center, The Boxes Etc. is proud to work with a company that seeks to be sustainable and innovative.
As of now, FedEx has over 200,000 vehicles out on the roads, so they realize how significant their carbon footprint could be. Therefore, they are always looking for ways to reduce it. Back in the early 90s, they became one of the first companies to utilize an electric car. In fact, they were also the first company to use hybrid vehicles back in 2003 in their constant effort to find ways to use new energy sources.
With FedEx’s new plan, they will ideally make half of their vehicle purchases electric by 2025. Given another five years after that, they plan to solely purchase electric vehicles, making it possible for them to own an entirely electric fleet of electric vehicles by 2040.
In an article recently published on FedEx’s website, the company states: “FedEx is actively collaborating with utility companies to develop more sustainable grids that will support the infrastructure needed for the large-scale adoption and charging of electric delivery vehicles. We're also working to forecast [the] energy needed to support this EV infrastructure. We will work with utility companies to help ensure grid supply can meet the demand of EV charging infrastructure without negatively impacting market conditions in local communities. We understand the need for everyone to benefit from cleaner forms of energy; that's why we intend to explore working with energy suppliers to identify fair and equitable approaches to the transition to cleaner energy.”
