Contractors State License Center (CSLC) has announced the availability of live in-person classes for contractors license in Los Angeles. Aside from the in-person classes in safe cubicles, they are also offering Zoom classes for contractors license. The in-school program is made up of six classes covering the topics of Law and Trade. And being designed for people engaged in work, those who take the course only need to come to class once a week for two hours with a choice of evening or weekend classes. To provide further flexibility, participants can come on different days from week to week. The course will be for six weeks and then the students will work on the practice exams and study materials as much as they want for their final preparation for the the contractors license test in California.
“Our research shows that contractors have a higher passing rate when studying in a class room,” says Eric Jacobs, an instructor at the Contractors State License Center. “In order to help you pass this exam, we have implemented an effective and comprehensive California contractors school, specifically designed to help you pass the test the first time. We offer a detailed curriculum in a classroom setting that is designed for your success. Our program that has been created over 20 years has helped thousands of our students get their California contractors license. We offer Contractor Classes in the San Fernando Valley.”
For those who are not able to attend the classes, they have also developed a home study course where the students can use their books, study guides, and practice exams to prepare for the exam. However, they do recommend that would-be contractors enroll in the classes to benefit from the classroom environment as this will boost their chances of passing the exam for the first time.
Passing the licensing test is essential because anyone in California who performs any type of building work for a fee that is $500 or more is mandated by law to be a licensed contractor. Specifically, the law requires that all individuals or businesses that construct or modify any building, road, highway, excavation, railroad, or any other structure in Los Angeles will need to be licensed by the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) if the total cost of the labor and materials for one or more contracts is $500 or more.
Contractors can be licensed as general builders, general engineering contractors, or in more specialized trades, such as well drilling, framing, masonry, or landscaping. Contractors, including specialty contractors, subcontractors, and individuals in the home improvement business have to be licensed before they can submit bids. Licenses may be issued to individuals, corporations, joint ventures, partnerships, and limited liability companies.
It is important to note that the CSLB-administered California contractor license exam is difficult and most people will usually need some study material or help to be able to pass. It is made up of two components. The first component is the standard Law and Business exam and all qualifying individuals will have to pass this test. The second part of the exam is focused on the particular trade or certification area that the applicant wants to be licensed for. Applicants will also need to pass this test except for those who are interested in the C-61 Limited Specialty Classification, which doesn’t require a trade test.
