December 04, 2015 - PRESSADVANTAGE -
The Lookout at Lake Chelan, a business in Chelan, WA, had announced in August that they will be offering a dollar for dollar match up to $10,000 for all gifts that are made to the Chelan Valley Relief Fund. The company now wants to remind people that while the collections started on August 19, 2015, these will continue until the targeted amount has been achieved.
"This is such a great example of how people in our communities come together in hard times," said Beth Stipe, Executive Director of the Community Foundation of NCW. "It's unfortunate that we're in a situation again where our friends and neighbors need our help. We've received donations from across the country and we are so grateful."
The Lookout at Lake Chelan encourages everybody to look at "our website" to get more details about what is being collected and why. The foundation, meanwhile, works closely with the various service agencies. Together, they help the victims of fire by finding out what their needs are and identifying the resources to fill that need. Many of these resources come directly from the fire relief fund.
While there were no level 3 evacuations in Chelan this year, there have been significant wildfires that have caused tremendous damage. The Chelan Complex fire, for instance, has now been burning for days. Level 1 and level 2 evacuations remain in force. While firefighters have some control over the fire itself, it still spans an area of 92,500 acres. This is already smaller than what it was at its height, which was 135,000 acres, but still substantial. This particular wildfire was caused by a lightning strike and has so far destroyed some 40 properties, as well as 28 outbuildings. Smaller fires continue to burn as well.
Unfortunately, Chelan Valley is prone to wildfires. People who check this out on a map, will quickly realize just how large of a geographical area is actually at risk, and what a fire could mean to people who live there. Every year, entire families lose everything, including, sometimes, their health or even life. Chelan Valley is therefore proud to see the community pulling together against this. The Lookout at Lake Chelan urges those who are interested in participating to "find us on Google Maps" and provide whatever help they are able to offer.
