Long Beach, California -
The Irlen Institute is pleased to announce that they have recently trained and certified 4 new Irlen diagnosticians. As a result, testing for Irlen Syndrome is now more accessible in North Carolina, South Carolina, Nebraska and the Tri-State area of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
Trained and qualified diagnosticians are able to perform both the screening and diagnostic parts of the Irlen Syndrome assessment and intervention, meaning they can identify and address the condition in the above areas. The Irlen Institute would like to congratulate the recently-qualified diagnosticians, Sandy Carawan, Beverly Furrow, Reasa Herzberg, and Char Scheuermann, and is happy to have more people in the United States with the skills to diagnose the condition.
“Professionals who have been certified in the Irlen Method are located worldwide,” says the Irlen Institute. “The Irlen Method consists of two testing sessions, a screening appointment by either Irlen Screeners orIrlen Diagnosticians and a testing appointment for Irlen Spectral Filters given exclusively by Irlen Diagnosticians. There are yearly filter rechecks.”
To clarify further, they add, “Colored tinted lenses provided by others are not the same as Irlen Spectral Filters provided by the Irlen Method. Only certified Irlen Diagnosticians are trained to determine the specific frequencies to optimize performance from an almost limitless selection of filters. Everyone’s brain is different. Only Irlen Diagnosticians can determine the Irlen Spectral Filter using the Irlen Method, a method with proven scientific results that show improved brain function. This results in improved processing of all visual stimuli and increased comfort and better functioning in bright lighting and when doing visual tasks such as reading.”
The Irlen Method provides a unique service that can help both children and adults with light-triggered headaches, migraines, reading and learning difficulties, low motivation, attention deficit disorder and a long list of other issues. The symptoms of Irlen Syndrome vary greatly among people with the condition. The Institute’s technology focuses on a single core problem caused by the condition, however: the brain’s inability to process visual information. This is the key issue for those with Irlen Syndrome.
One condition that the Irlen Method has been shown to help with is Attention Deficit Disorder or ADD/ADHD. The use of medication to manage this condition is a controversial topic, with conflicting information leading to under-recognition, overdiagnosis and overtreatment. Some studies show up to half of children with ADD or ADHD in the United states not receiving adequate care and a third of those who are diagnosed with the condition being misdiagnosed.
The Irlen Institute says, “Just because your child seems inattentive, rushes through activities, makes careless errors, daydreams or seems unmotivated, it doesn’t necessarily mean ADHD is to blame. Does your child avoid doing homework? Give up easily? Rush through assignments? All of these are coping strategies children use to deal with academic difficulties which may be the result of Irlen Syndrome, not attention deficit disorder.”
They continue, “Telling a child to pay more attention or keep trying may not be helpful. This may only contribute to your child feeling dumb, stupid, or bad. As many as one third of people diagnosed with attention deficit disorder may suffer from Irlen Syndrome. Irlen Spectral Filters will eliminate attention problems for this group. The Irlen Method is noninvasive and does not require the use of medication. In some cases, individuals wear Irlen Spectral Filters in addition to taking medication but may need less medication to stay focused and attentive.”
The Irlen Institute, since its founding in 1983, has helped countless people across the globe overcome some of the issues caused by Irlen Syndrome. Through their comprehensive diagnostic process and innovative technology, the Irlen Institute ensures that people living with the condition are correctly identified and given the appropriate intervention. At the Irlen Institute they believe in personalized care and individualized solutions. Their technology is built with the idea that everyone’s brain is different, and this is why the Institute has been so successful in finding solutions for those living with Irlen Syndrome.
There are nearly 200 diagnosticians and thousands of Irlen screeners in over 50 countries around the world. The Irlen Institute is always looking to train more in order to ensure that, eventually, everyone has access to a trained diagnostician.
Parents and other parties may find a professional certified in the Irlen Method who can test both children and adults for Irlen Syndrome through the Institute’s website. The Institute's representatives can be reached via phone, email and social media.
The Irlen Institute, founded by Helen Irlen in 1983, has helped over a million people worldwide through its comprehensive diagnostic process and innovative technology.
