First Endurance, based in Salt Lake City, UT, has announced that triathlete Heather Wurtele has recently won the 2016 IRONMAN 70.3 North American Pro Championship. Wurtele was champion in 2015 and she was able to defend her title again in the 2016 competition. This is the triathlete's third win in a row for the season.
"It's no surprise Heather is a repeat North American champion. Her work ethic and attitude are second to none and we are very lucky to work with such a dedicated athlete," says Robert Kunz, Vice President of Science & Technology.
Followers were not surprised with the win, as most expected Wurtele to defend her reign as champion. Her time was 4:16:48, and during the competition she was the fastest in women's bike and run, despite the weather that included cold temperatures, wind, and rain. Her victory in the competition assures her a spot in the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship that will be held in Australia in the fall of 2016. She secured her two earlier wins this season in Monterrey and Oceanside, and has a competition in Mont-Tremblant later next month.

"Over the last 13 months, IRONMAN has crowned 6 North American champions. We have four of those titles," states Robert Kunz.
The four titles Kunz mentioned are: Heather Wurtele, 2015 70.3; Angela Naeth, 2015 Ironman; Matt Hansen, 2015 Ironman; and Heather Wurtele, 2016 70.3.
"The tough course and the tough competition is what really draws me to the race, so I was very happy to be able to come away with the win. It was one of those full-gas, having to dig very deep, type of races where you make yourself hurt a lot, but it is incredibly satisfying for that reason!" says Heather Wurtele.
