May 23, 2017 - PRESSADVANTAGE -
The Strategic Edge and Meredith Gardner, Ph.D., who are based in New York, NY, have released a new training program on conflict resolution using an ombudsman. Specifically, she means this in the context of board members and advisory commitments. This program is geared towards all types of companies, including coop boards with tenants and nonprofit organizations.
Dr. Gardner herself says: "The idea of an ombudsman is urgently needed in many situations, but surprisingly underutilized. As an executive coach, speaker, facilitator, and mediator, I specialize in conflict resolution. I feel that using the term 'ombudsman' in these situations is the most appropriate, as the role fits the traditional definition of that function."
Dr. Gardner has worked for public corporations for many years, including large nonprofit organizations like the American Cancer Society. In those roles, she worked with entire teams and reported directly to the CEO. This inspired her to develop conflict resolution tools and techniques, including dealing with different personality styles, mediation, and facilitation, something that she has been very successful in. This is what has helped her to develop the Strategic CIO Solutions and Meredith Gardner programs
"Ombudsman" is a Swedish term dating back to the 1800's. It means a person who has an ear to the people. It is used world-wide to designate impartial, confidential and independent offices that receive inquiries and concerns from groups of people, and work to achieve fair solutions. The term ombudsman is used to communicate to the widest possible community and is not intended to discourage others from using alternative forms of this word, such as ombudsperson or ombuds.
Dr. Meredith Gardner is an animated international speaker, executive coach, trainer and author. Her areas of expertise include personality style, conflict resolution, mediation and ombudsman. She previously had her own radio program as well as being a guest on local and national radio/TV. Meredith also attended programs at the NASA Corporate Space Academy (Huntsville, Alabama) where, as a leader, she was appointed Director of the Space Research Lab on simulated flight. As a Distinguished Toastmaster from the public speaking organization Toastmasters International, she has won many coveted awards. She imparts leadership skills and strategies - with passion and humor - to the people she counsels.
