John DiMartino Jazz Pianist

The entire month of March 2019 John DiMartino will be holding forth Tuesdays playing solo piano at George Aprile’s suave and sophisticated nightclub in Tribeca NYC, The 75 Club.

DiMartino is known for his associations with legendary jazz singers Freddy Cole, Billy Eckstine, Gloria Lynne, Janis Siegal, and Anne Hampton Calloway among others.

The Grammy-winning pianist keeps busy with his own trio, Paquito D’Rivera and the top NYC singers and players that make NYC the mecca of jazz.

Especially versed in the music of Billy Strayhorn, his unique style and free-flowing harmonic ideas have made him the secret behind many great recordings.

Here at the 75 Club in Tribeca, one will find him solo, at the piano giving his interpretations of Gershwin, Monk, Cole Porter, Billy Strayhorn and other great writers of Jazz and the American Songbook.

The 75 Club is an unusual venue in New York. Located in Tribeca, it may be the only first-class jazz listening room in lower Manhattan. Located downstairs at the famed and historic Bogardus Mansion, named after the originator of the cast-iron building design, James Bogardus.

A photograph of Mr. Bogardus is prominently displayed along with sketches and drawings near the downstairs entrance, a welcome slice of history that adds to the flavor of the room.

Lining the walls and wainscoting in the club are photographs of the jazz greats, the ambiance of the room speaks to the legends of jazz and the performers keep the flame alive.

The 75 Club features great jazz Tuesday thru Saturday. The mansion has been beautifully restored to highlight its rich history, with period decor in every corner reminding one of the greatness of the building. The modern facilities meld perfectly with the historic feel.

Its stunning 5-story facade is a replica of the late 13th century Palazzo Vendramin in Venice and is featured on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. That alone is worth the visit. To visit The 75 Club is a step into luxury and the jazz downstairs creates a feeling of elegance and tradition unmatched by any other location in the city.

World class performers grace the stage every evening from Tuesday thru Saturday from about 7 to 11 pm. On any given evening one can find artists who maintain the creativity and art of acoustic jazz, without the pressure of smooth jazz or the hustle of the big name jazz clubs.

The perfect spot for a first date, a romantic evening or just a great evening, the jazz played here honors the tradition.

As a pianist of note, John DiMartino is sensitive to his listeners and often asks for audience requests. His repertoire is vast and eclectic, ranging from Duke Ellington to Charlie Parker, to Coleman Hawkins and on to Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock.

A lover of Brazilian music, John DiMartino often draws on Antonio Carlos Jobim, Joao Gilberto, Milton Nascimento, and other not so so famous Brazilian composers to bring inspiration to the evening.

Owner and curator of the music and the venue, George Aprile has been a jazz lover all his life. Most of the musicians he invites to play here are people he has known and heard countless times at the uptown Harlem clubs and mid-town jazz venues. It was only natural when he decided to open his club, to bring the jazz downtown.

Close to the Mayor’s office and the Financial District, it’s the perfect place to go after work for “jazz and cocktails”.

The 75 Club is located at 75 Murray Street, New York, NY 10007 (between Greenwich Street & West Broadway)

Subways: Take the 1, 2, 3, A, C, or E train to Chambers Street, or the 4, 5, 6, R, W, J, Z train to City Hall
