September 24, 2019 - PRESSADVANTAGE -

Collaborate to Educate Our Sons, Inc. (CEOS), a Maryland based international, multifaith, not-for-profit organization, is pleased to announce they will conclude their 10th Anniversary with their 7th Annual Awards Gala for young men and their families. The Gala will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at 5:00 pm. The venue will be the Lake Presidential Golf Club at 3151 Presidential Golf Drive in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Designed to educate, form, and nurture transformational leaders, CEOS states that their mission is to encourage boys and young men to achieve academic excellence and be prepared for entrance into college and universities, thereby building constructive contributors for a brighter tomorrow. According to CEOS, their organization focuses on building caring relationships, raising educational awareness, supporting mentors and mentoring organizations, and providing scholarships for boys and young men so they can become productive members who contribute to both their community and society at large.

"Our sons are walking through a landscape filled with landmines of low spiritual, intellectual, and social capital, with many dangers lurking everywhere. We must do something to save them," says CEOS founder and chief executive officer Dr. Bertram Melbourne. He continues, "We must keep our sons safe and productive, and the way to do that is to collaborate and provide an ecosystem that will offer them the guidance they need as well as reward their growth."

The theme for the event is ‘Developing the Best: Brightening the Future.’ Dr. Melbourne believes that the theme reflects a truth, one that should not just be remembered but also made real, especially in the modern era. He says, "This event will provide an enriching experience for parents, mentors, and youth leaders who want to affirm our sons, or those who want to leave behind a legacy of investing in the lives of young men."

One of the key points of the program is CEOS’ long standing pinning tradition, during which young men in the organization have the privilege of being affirmed by their fathers, mothers who father them, or a mentor with a coveted CEOS pin. It will be followed by a prayer of dedication and support.

Dr. Melbourne also adds, “This year, we have decided to add a new element to our ceremony. Not only will we affirm young men, but we will introduce a new tradition of affirming the fathers and the mothers who father sons. They will be inducted into the Hall of the Unsung Heroes. What we are saying is that we’ll begin to recognize the sacrificial contributions of those who shepherd our sons to become great citizens. If baseball and football can have their halls of fame to recognize the success of their heroes, why shouldn’t we have one as well? The fathers and the mothers who father sons deserve recognition as much as anyone else.”

According to CEOS, The Hall of the Unsung Heroes will induct 10 unsung heroes this year via nomination. Dr. Melbourne says, “We believe that these ten heroes should be chosen by our community, and you can nominate your hero via our online form. Nominations will be available until September 30, 2019.”

The keynote speaker for the CEOS 7th Annual Awards Gala will be Mrs. Marilyn Crouther, who has served as a senior executive within the IT industry. Mrs. Marilyn Crouther currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Center for Innovative Technology. In 2017, she was recognized by Black Enterprise as one of the 300 Most Powerful Executives in corporate America and has participated in several national programs and initiatives, including the White House Roundtable discussion with President Obama on Greenhouse Gas Emissions and the First Lady’s Military and Veterans initiatives.

Dr. Melbourne says, “We believe that Mrs. Crouther will be a huge contributor to our special evening. Her keynote speech will certainly be one to watch, given her burning passion for leadership and community service in such organizations such as The American Heart Association and various other philanthropic and veterans’ initiatives. We’re looking forward to seeing her speak to our organization’s youth.”

Interested parties can purchase tickets for the event on CEOS’ official website, which also includes directions to the venue. Tickets can be purchased online via PayPal or credit card.
