January 10, 2020 - PRESSADVANTAGE -

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Jan. 20, 2020, marks the 25th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy.

Collaborate to Educate Our Sons (CEOS) is proud to announce their inaugural day of service to provide the community's sons a means of developing their attitude of serving others by doing good deeds.

MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.

To this end, CEOS has planned an event comprising service and celebration. It is slated for Howard University Hospital where the community's sons will be given the opportunity to bring cheer to the patients by singing civil rights era songs and sharing their perspective on how the legacy of Dr. King has shared their world and journey.

This will be followed by a season of celebration with a diversity of performance of word, music and song by local artists. This will be topped off with the sharing of refreshments and reflection on this special time.

“Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy continues to inspire others to serve their community,” stated Dr. Bertram Melbourne.

Dr. Melbourne further stated, “Service Day offers an opportunity to look back at the achievements of a Great hero, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who unselfishly served the neglected and the oppressed; and, in his spirit minister to the needs of those oppressed by sickness and disease, as we look forward to future service to those left behind by society or relegated to the margins.”

Those who would like to experience this treasured moment can and come join CEOS at the Howard University Hospital.
