Panama City, Fla.- As COVID-19 sweeps across the nation, there seems to also be a great need for toilet paper. Mr.Rooter Plumbing of North West Florida, a 24-hour plumber in Panama City, is highlighting why no one should flush anything other than toilet paper in these desperate times. Using “flush-ables” may become the last resort for many over the next few weeks, however, this could become a major problem for the local city waste management team.
Products offered as an alternative to toilet paper often called “flush-ables” are not good for pipes as the packaging may claim. The item may go down the toilet but will ultimately get stuck within the sewer pipes. The waste management system is not set up to dispose of any items other than toilet paper.
“In this time of toilet paper shortage folks need to be reminded that baby wipes and hand wipes even if the container says flush-able are not flush-able,” urged owner Scott Hoods. “That only means it will go through the toilet. It doesn't necessarily mean that it will go through your pipes and they will definitely wreak havoc on your septic system. All items other than toilet paper should be thrown in the trash,” he continued.
Anyone forced to use flush-ables should keep a trash can with a plastic bag in their bathroom. If the waste management system starts to have a large back up of flush-ables or any other product coming down the pipes, this could cause the city to have to waste valuable resources in troubled times.
For anyone experiencing problems with their septic tank or having backed up pipes due to flushing flush-ables, Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Northwest Florida is here to help.
