San Francisco-based Pet Food Patrol warns pet owners of another dog food recall being issued due to a "potential" for containing Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes, a species of disease-causing bacteria.
"The list of pet food recalls for 2021 is growing and we are only in March," said Pet Food Patrol spokesperson R. Beal. This time it is Bravo Packing announcing a recall of all of its 2 lb. and 5 lb. sleeves of Ground Beef and Performance Dog food.
The raw frozen pet food could be contaminated with Salmonella and Listeria. This announcement was made by the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA was cited as saying that the dog food "has the potential", so it is something that dog owners should heed. The announcement was made because an FDA inspection of the dog food showed that Salmonella and Listeria were both present in the pet food.
According to the pet food producer, it currently has no reports of pet or human illnesses linked to the product. However, both Salmonella and Listeria can cause serious illnesses in pets, and Salmonella can cause illness in humans who handle the food as well. The recommendation is that you should always wash your hands after feeding your dog or any other pet.
Things to look out for in pets that could have been infected with Salmonella are "lethargy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, bloody stool, fever, and vomiting, among others." Your furry friend might show a lack of appetite, abdominal pain, and fever. The aforementioned are just some of the things to look for. Some dogs or pets could experience other symptoms.
If you have fed your dog Bravo Beef Packing Ground Beef and Performance Dog Food or you know or suspect that your dog has eaten these products, then you need to contact your veterinarian. It's better to be safe and have your pup checked than to lament it later.
People are also warned to check and see whether they have any of the recalled dog food in storage. People are advised of the need to throw the food away, but it has to be done in a way that will not harm other animals, especially wildlife. Pet owners should look for a way to get rid of the food that will not allow other animals to consume it.
Pet Food Patrol has a page on its website which you can check to see whether you have any recalled dog or pet food.
