April 06, 2016 - PRESSADVANTAGE -
The Village of Cambridge New York has made additional announcements regarding its sesquicentennial celebration that will kickoff on April 16, 2016. Come rain or shine, the event will go ahead and residents and other visitors are encouraged to attend. The day is set to be fantastic, with a range of ceremonies and activities.
Mayor Carman Bogle of the Village of Cambridge says: "The 150th anniversary is an exciting time to celebrate the history and people that make our community unique and special. I am proud to a part of this amazing community!"
At 10:30 am, flags that have been donated will be raised at the Library, the Fire Department and Village Offices. These flags have 36 stars and are representative of the US Flags that were flown in 1866.
Acting Village Superintendant Matt Toleman is sourcing trees to be planted within the Village. The Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other organizations have expressed interest in the tree plantings. Maps of available locations for trees in the Village will be made available on the 16th.
A season long historical scavenger hunt will also begin on that day, with the first clue being placed at the Village Offices at 56 North Park Street. 150th anniversary posters for the event are also being posted and displayed throughout the area.
The Facebook page for the sesquicentennial is now online through https://www.facebook.com/Cambridge150yrs and will be updated regularly. People are encouraged to like it so that they are kept up to date regarding the upcoming celebration.
July 16 will also see the Fire Department's Parade and Muster, something that they are getting very excited about. Invitations to participate in this event will be made this week. Full details are available on the village's website at http://cambridgeny.gov.
The village's Facebook page also encourages people to sponsor banners for their favorite organization. Thirty-six sponsorships are available, costing $250 each. The sponsor's name and/or business will be displayed at the bottom of children's artwork banners, which are currently being created to celebrate the Village of Cambridge's sesquicentennial anniversary. The banners will be displayed from utility poles in the downtown region for the summer and fall seasons.
