LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman recently commented on an incident involving a New York construction worker who was critically injured on the job. Moverman stated that he wishes the man a quick and successful recovery and hopes that tighter safety guidelines can prevent these types of incidents in the future.
According to the New York Daily News, the worker had been doing construction on the Eastern Parkway near Dean Street in Ocean Hill when the incident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. The 44-year-old worker was rushed to the hospital after a cinder block fell about 5 feet before striking him, the report said.
The OSHA reported that more than 20 percent of all work-related fatalities in 2013 were employed in the construction industry and that one in five of the 4,821 reported fatalities in 2014 were also in the construction industry.The most common forms of injury in the construction business include slips, trips, and falls. These types of accidents, in addition to electrocution and being stuck between objects or struck by them, accounted for over half of construction worker deaths in 2014, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
