Manhattan Beach, California (Press Advantage) August 21, 2018: Manhattan Beach-based Cancer Journeys Foundation today announced a partnership with Cal Club, the Southern California region of the Sports Car Club of America, to create an inaugural Autocross team competition, the Stop Cancer Autocross Challenge, for Cancer Awareness and Prevention. The inaurgural event will be held on October 21, 2018 at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.

The Stop Cancer Autocross Challenge is a unique competition where each team is comprised of a female and male driver. Each team member drives an autocross slalom course three times, with the team score being the combined total of the fastest run by team members. Participant cars will be indexed so that teams compete on an even basis regardless of the type of car they drive. Trophies will be awarded in four categories.

According to Cancer Journeys Foundation founder Robert Hess, “I am thrilled that the Cal Club leadership has approved this program. Our goal is to reach the automotive enthusiast community with the importance of screening and early detection of cancer – and have some “fun with cars” at the same time. This year’s event comes just after September, which is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and in the middle of National Beast Cancer Awareness Month – October. Autocross is a great motorsport and both men and women actively compete, but this is the first time men and women will be competing together as a team. It’s very exciting concept.”

Said Hess, “Prostate cancer and breast cancer are almost mirror images of each other in the number of new cases each year and the number of lives lost every year. The goal of the “Stop Cancer Challenge” is to get women and men working together to make sure those annual screening tests happen. Early cancer detection dramatically improves the chance of cure.”

The Stop Cancer challenge will be help on Sunday, October 21, 2018, at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. There is a practice session on Saturday at the same location for drivers who want a bit more practice. Event information is available on the Tour de USA website and Registration is through Motorsportreg.com.
