Manhattan Beach-based Cancer Journeys Foundation, in partnership with Cal Club SCCA Autocross, hosted the 2nd Annual Stop Cancer Team Autocross Challenge for Cancer Awareness and Prevention on November 10, 2019, at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.

The Stop Cancer Autocross Challenge is a unique team motorsports competition where each team is comprised of a female and male driver. Each team member drives an autocross course four times, with their team score being the combined total of the fastest run by team members. Participant cars are indexed so that teams compete on an even basis regardless of the type of car they drive. Trophies are awarded in four categories to the teams with the lowest combined time.

According to Cancer Journeys Foundation founder Robert Hess, “It was a thrill hosting our 2nd Annual Stop Cancer Team Challenge. Our goal is to reach the automotive enthusiast community with the importance of screening and early detection of cancer – and have some #funwithcars at the same time. Autocross is a great motorsport and both men and women actively compete, but this is the only motorsports event where men and women compete together as a team. We are foreshadowing in motorsports the mixed-gender team events that will be part of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics,” said Hess.

The goal of the “Stop Cancer Challenge” is to get women and men working together to make sure those annual screening tests happen. Early cancer detection dramatically improves the chance of cure.

The 2019 Stop Cancer challenge took place on November 10, 2019, with on Sunday, November 10, 2019, at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. 14 teams competed for top honors in their categories. The winning teams are listed on the Cancer Journeys Foundation website – 2019 Stop Cancer Challenge Winners.
