Anaheim, California – Lighthouse Treatment Center, a drug and alcohol treatment facility in Anaheim, CA hosted members of its alumni program in a wolf-assisted therapy session last July 11, 2020 at O’Neill Regional Park in Trabuco Canyon. The Lighthouse partnered with adventure treatment provider Living Life In Recovery to deliver this one-of-a-kind experience to its alumni members.
Jocel Bibera, Alumni Relations Coordinator of the Lighthouse, said that the wolf therapy outing is one of their favorite events in the program calendar. “We sit around in a circle while we get to interact with full-blooded North American grey wolves. The wolf handler also answers questions that we may have about wolves and their behavior. It’s always a great learning experience for all of us,” said Bibera.
Ari L. shared that she is truly grateful for the alumni program and events sponsored by the Lighthouse. “I never knew I could have so much fun in sobriety but this program has shown me it’s possible. Going on the wolf outing with my Lighthouse family was an amazing experience just like all the other events,” said Ari.
Wolf-assisted therapy is part of the adventure treatment programs organized by Living Life In Recovery that aims to provide therapeutic benefits to people struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues. These programs are designed to help participants develop values like confidence, self-esteem, empathy, communication skills, etc. Other activities include archery, indoor skydiving, rock climbing, and zip lining.
