MARGATE, Fla. – Margate-Based Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facility Provides Compelling Programming to Encourage and Motivate Clients on the Road to Recovery

On December 4, Reflections Treatment Center hosted NBA veteran Keyon L. Dooling for a book signing and meet and greet with the facility’s clients. Dooling shared the deeply personal story of childhood sexual abuse survival detailed in his book “What’s Driving You??? How I Overcame Abuse and Learned to Lead in the NBA.” He also expounded on how the childhood trauma led to a widely-publicized breakdown that would lead to his early retirement, but also his understanding of how PTSD and the symptoms of his abuse had affected his career and all aspects of his life.

“We applaud Keyon for his courage in sharing his story in order to help others who have experienced similar traumas,” said Dr. Barry M. Gregory Ed.D., M.Ed., LMHC, the facility’s clinical director and a bestselling author. “It’s important for our clients to have these experiences, hear first hand stories of triumph and see what victory looks like. It encourages them to continue to stay the course of their own recovery one day at a time.” Drug and alcohol treatment has the potential to create lasting change.

Dooling was a first round NBA pick in 2000 and played for 13 years in the league with seven teams before retiring. Following his retirement, Dooling published his memoir and launched The Respect Foundation, a charitable organization that provides support, resources and information to help ensure the safety of all children regardless of age, race or sex. The foundation promotes the message that not only can sexual abuse be prevented, but also if a child is victimized, they can recover. A portion of the proceeds from each copy of “What’s Driving You???” benefit the foundation.

Dooling’s book signing and meet and greet was facilitated by Kenneth Chatman, the founder of Reflection Treatment Center and included an interactive question and answer session. All in attendance received personally autographed copies of Dooling’s book and a custom commemorative bookmark as a gift.
