MARGATE, Fla. – This week, the executive staff of Reflections Treatment Center collected and donated 145 toys to Wilton Manors, Florida-based Kids in Distress (KID), a licensed nationally accredited agency working for the prevention of child abuse, preservation of the family, and the treatment of abused and neglected children. Reflections Treatment Center founder Kenny Chatman delivered the toys along with bestselling author Dr. Barry Gregory, the facility’s clinical director.
NBA veteran Keyon Dooling partnered with Reflections Treatment Center for the event. Dooling, author of “What’s Driving You???” is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, and the founder of The Respect Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps provide resources, support and information to ensure the safety of all children. During the toy drive event, Dooling greeted the children in attendance and joined them for fun on the playground and a catered lunch of sandwiches and chips. He also presented autographed copies of his new book to Mark Dhooge, chief executive officer of KID and the rest of the agency’s staff. Keyon is a native of Fort Lauderdale and is a major supporter of programs benefiting the well being of young people in the area.
“We are deeply committed to collaborating with community partners to help meet the needs of abused, neglected and at-risk children in Broward and Palm Beach counties,” said Mr. Chatman. “Kids In Distress provides invaluable services for abused children, offering everything from counseling to foster and adoption services. We hope that the toy drive helps to further their mission to fill gaps, foster compassion and transform children’s futures.”
