MARGATE, Fla. – This week, Kenny Chatman and the executive staff of Reflections Treatment Center along with Keyon Dooling visited the Leo Goodwin Teen Center in Broward County and donated Three Thousand Dollars to help fund the local Boys and Girls Club program. Reflections Treatment Center founder Kenny Chatman delivered the “Big Check” along with Keyon Dooling and Randal Hill to a room filled with excited teens. On hand from the BGCA were Chief of Club Operations Di Maharaj and Director of Development Karriem Edwards.
NBA veteran Keyon Dooling partnered with Reflections Treatment Center for the event as their official spokes person. Dooling, author of “What’s Driving You???” is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, and the founder of The Respect Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps provide resources, support and information to ensure the safety of all children. During the presentation, Dooling greeted the teens in attendance and joined them for snacks and a baking contest held in the recreation area. Keyon is a native of Fort Lauderdale and an alumni of the Boys and Girls Club Program. During his presentation, he encouraged the teenagers with stories of how the club was a refuge for him during his childhood and teen years. He also shared the experience of his first basketball game at the club and the audience was riveted. He reminded the young people that they are not alone and should reach out if they find themselves in a dangerous or compromising position.
“I are deeply committed to collaborating with community partners to help meet the needs of at-risk teenagers in Broward and Palm Beach counties,” said Mr. Chatman. “The Boys and Girls Club provides invaluable services for children that need support outside the home. I hope that in some small way the donation helps to further their mission to transform children’s futures and prevent the issues related to the use of drugs and alcohol. If these kids have somewhere to go after school many problems can be avoided.”
