The auto emergency trauma bag is a compact travel first aid kit that features an Advanced Clotting Sponge. This is a trauma sponge with a hemostatic (clotting) agent that acts to promote rapid clotting at the site of the wound.
"In our conversations with our customers and surveys we're finding where these kits are being used, and we've been surprised to learn quite a few people are actually packing them to go on vacation," says Anna Loehwing, COO of First Aid Shoppe. "This is a very small kit but it has a very aggressive set of components. This is not a band-aid and aspirin general purpose first aid kit. This is for use in a serious bleeding emergency, the kind you would only have in the case of a real, life-threatening emergency. The fact that people are taking the time to make sure they're prepared for that when away from home and on the road is, I think, encouraging."
Central to the ResQue 1st Emergency Trauma Kit is the advanced clotting sponge, a clotting compress designed to slow or stop severe bleeding in order to stabilize the victim at the scene until help can arrive or be sought. The kit also contains non-latex (nitrile) gloves, gauze, medical tape and antiseptic wipes, all for the purpose of treating a serious injury quickly.
"This kit will fit just about anywhere, so it's easy to pack," says Ms. Loehwing. "And according to what we're learning, people are taking them everywhere."
The high-end emergency trauma kit by First Aid Shoppe is designed for use in a severe bleeding emergency. By survey it is being packed for travel by customers going on vacation.
