Today First Aid Shoppe, providers of professional grade first aid and survival gear, reported that their ResQue 1st Trauma Kit With SWAT-T Tourniquet has been sized to fit easily into a standard automotive glove box. The kit, which contains the SWAT-T tourniquet and an advanced clotting sponge, along with gauze, medical tape, wipes and gloves, is 7.5 x 3 x 5 inches and weighs 10 ounces. It comes in a durable nylon zipper bag.
"Talk about bang per ounce," says First Aid Shoppe COO and spokesperson, Anna Loehwing. "This kit is so compact, and it is maximally high impact. High impact for big injuries. God forbid you have a bad enough injury to need to use this, but if you do it could be just the thing that saves a life."
The two key items in the ResQue 1st Trauma Kit, the SWAT Tourniquet and the Advanced Clotting Sponge. Each item is meant to stabilize a particular type of serious bleeding, and to stabilize the victim of a serious injury until help can be obtained. The tourniquet doubles as a compression bandage, and is able to be secured high in the groin or armpit area as needed to stop arterial bleeding. The clotting sponge uses a hemostatic (clotting) agent approved by the US Department of Defense.
"This trauma kit is intended for one purpose only," says Ms. Loehwing, "handling a serious bleeding injury, fast, on the scene, and stabilizing someone who's bleeding badly until professional help can arrive. With this kit you've got either the clotting sponge, to handle a wound directly, or the SWAT-T tourniquet to clamp off arterial bleeding to the extremities."
The Trauma Kit also includes other items necessary for the control of major bleeding, including medical tape, gauze, and latex free nitrile gloves.
