AbuseGuardian.com reports on a sexual assault lawsuit filed on August 21, 2014 in the Circuit Court for Pinellas County Florida, case number 14-006291-CI. There are multiple defendants named in this case, but the alleged assault occurred at the Artistic Expressions Day Spa in Florida.

The alleged assault occurred on February 27, 2013 when the plaintiff, a resident of New Hampshire, used a Groupon to receive a massage at Artistic Expressions. The plaintiff was taken advantage of when she was in a vulnerable position, and was so frightened and panicked that she froze during the assault. She left embarrassed, confused, and unaware of what she should do about the alleged assault. On March 4 2013 the plaintiff reported the sexual assault to the police, naming Ronald Bruinius, the therapist working at Artistic Expressions, as the perpetrator. Bruinius was arrested and charged with sexual battery for the assault against the plaintiff and other victims.

According to court documents Bruinius had been employed at Massage Envy of Clearwater, and on September 6 2012 provided services to a female client. This client accused Bruinius of sexual assault and reported it to the police. When the police contacted Massage Envy to inform them of the allegations against their employee they conducted an internal investigation. Massage Envy then fired Bruinius following this investigation, yet did not contact the Florida Department of Health or any other agency so that Bruinius’ massage license remained intact.

Both defendants are allegedly negligent in this civil case due to the fact that Massage Envy never disclosed the allegations of sexual assault to the Florida Department of Health which would inform others of the allegations, and Artistic Expressions allegedly never completed a proper criminal background check prior to hiring Bruinius. According to the complaint, these negligent acts and omissions allowed Bruinius to sexually assault multiple female clients.

The plaintiff suffered and continues to suffer from a number of negative effects due to the alleged trauma. Additionally this trauma exacerbated and aggravated her already preexisting psychological issues.
