AbuseGuardian.com reports on the arrest of a Texas nurse who is accused of sexually assaulting a patient while she was in his care at Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital. He was arrested on Friday, March 4th, 2016 while on his way into work.
The alleged victim claims that she was admitted to the hospital after suffering from seizures in June of 2015. She says that it was during that hospital visit that the nurse came into her room, gave her a pill, and injected something into her IV which rendered her paralyzed. She claims he then proceeded to sexually assault her while she was completely aware of what was happening. In an interview with Eyewitness News she stated, “I was conscious of everything happening. I knew who was there, what was going on, but I couldn't do anything about it. He took advantage of somebody he made helpless.”
The woman states that when her boyfriend returned to the hospital after the alleged attack they contacted the police, and within a week test results had returned confirming there was DNA evidence from an unknown male on her nightgown, pillow, and bedsheets. The hospital commented in a statement that the nurse in question’s schedule is pending further investigation and that, in addition to monitoring the situation, they will be cooperating fully with the police. The suspect has been released from jail after posting the required $100,000 bond. The Texas Board of Nursing told Eyewitness News they are “seriously reviewing the matter” in regard to the suspect’s nursing license.
The alleged victim, in this case, has described her fear that other patients may have suffered at the hands of this nurse. She struggles to trust people and told reporters that it has affected every aspect of her life. According to RAINN, some of the most common side effects of sexual assault include post-traumatic stress disorder, self-harm, flashbacks, sexually-transmitted infections, depression, and substance abuse.
