AbuseGuardian.com reports on the arrest of a Baylor University fraternity president which took place on Thursday, March 4th, 2016 in connection with an alleged sexual assault that took place last month.
The 20-year-old junior Baylor student accused is the president of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, and he allegedly forced himself onto a female outside of a fraternity party. The victim claims to have been handed a punch drink at a party in South Waco and says she was told, “Here you go. Drink this.” According to police reports, shortly after that, she became disoriented and went outside to get some air with the suspect, who then forcibly sexually assaulted her. The court documents continue to describe how the victim passed out, and state that when she awoke, she went into the house to alert her friend about what had occurred. The friend then took her to the hospital. The suspect was released from McLennan County Jail Thursday evening on a $50,000 bond.
The suspect’s lawyer, Clyde Chandler, commented on his client’s arrest by stating, “This is a heck of a time to be accused of sexual assault, especially at Baylor University, with Baylor’s history with not being truthful with what’s going on.” In this statement, the defendant’s lawyer is referring to multiple victims of sexual assault who were featured in a report by ESPN “Outside the Lines”. In the report, the victims profiled claimed that the school mishandled their sexual assault complaints and failed to provide support to them. Two former Baylor football players accused of rape have now been convicted and sentenced. Baylor conducted a Title IX investigation in 2014, during which it cleared one of those convicted men.
Brian Kent, Esq. of Laffey Bucci & Kent understands the seriousness of sexual assault allegations. He stated, “Sexual abuse is an act of power and violence and a growing problem on college campuses. Many colleges struggle to handle this increasingly problematic issue while victims of abuse suffer.” Both Kent and his firm sponsor the online resource AbuseGuardian.com and are currently representing several clients in claims of sexual assault.
